2008 Porsche 911 Turbo

The 997 Turbo made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2006. This is the 5th generation Porsche 911 Turbo. It is based on the wider body of the all-wheel drive cars and has a more aggressive stance than the 911 Carrera models. It also has a retractable rear wing as well as air vents on the rear fenders for effective engine cooling. The 997 Turbo is 41 kg lighter than the 996 Turbo due to extensive use of aluminum on the car. The engine is the 3.6L flat six-cylinder, rear mounted engine with twin turbos. Power output is 353kW or 473hp with 620Nm of torque available between 1950rpm and 5000rpm. Top speed is 310km/h and zero to 100km/h takes a mere 3.7 seconds. The engine uses two BorgWarner VTG turbochargers, a first for a Porsche production car. The turbochargers are fitted with a two-stage resonance intake system. The Variable Turbine Geometry incorporates guide vanes on the turbine wheel that change their angle of attack with exhaust speed, reducing turbo lag at low speeds while opening up to prevent excessive back pressure at high RPM.
